Mojang will disband after 10 years if it's not profitable, Notch says
Minecraft creator and Mojang co-founder Markus "Notch" Persson has a plan that will give the company 10 years to come up with another big hit, according to a recent interview in Rolling Stone."Hopefully, we are going to keep making money at Mojang, but if we don't, that's fine," Persson told Rolling Stone. "We just have 10 fun years, and then, the last year, we'd say to our employees, 'If we don't make any money this year, Mojang is going to be dead. So you might want to look for new jobs.'"
Sandbox indie game Minecraft, which had its first full release in 2011, has sold around 50 million copies across Android, iOS, PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360; PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and Xbox One editions of the game are still expected.
Profitable games like Scrolls, Mojang's strategy collectible card game, are making "peanuts" next to Minecraft, Persson told the publication. Persson's last big project, 0x10c, was put on hold indefinitely last year.
